Parish Council Support For Watton Park Development

Symondsbury Parish Council has given its support for the development of 33 homes in Watton Park, provided an amendment is made to the height of one of the homes.

The planning application, submitted by Baker Estates, was discussed earlier this month, but was previously recommended for refusal by Bridport Town Council.

Graham Hutton, of Baker Estates, said: “We are pleased to have engaged meaningfully with Symondsbury Parish Council since March, when we first presented our plans for 33 homes at land off Watton Park in Bridport.

“These constructive and proactive conversations have allowed us to arrive at a development the council can be proud of.

“During their recent parish council meeting, of the 33 homes planned, the council requested minor amendments to just one property, which we have agreed to.

“On this basis, the council has resolved to support the application.

“It is refreshing to speak to councillors who are seeking to be part of the solution when it comes to high quality provision for their local area.

“At Baker Estates we are committed to delivering new housing developments of the highest quality that will be of benefit to the areas in which they sit, so it was very pleasing that the council praised our proposal for its interesting design and use of quality materials.”

Symondsbury Parish Council commented that they felt the height of the proposed build on plot 25 (the most northern home, which was proposed to be a five-bed house) is too imposing on existing neighbouring properties.

They would support this application if a less imposing and re-design to that specific property takes place.
