Downsizing couple gets the ‘feel good factor’ with contemporary open-plan bungalow in Devon

A retired couple in their sixties, Phil and Wendy Culley, along with their terrier Cookie, moved into a new contemporary bungalow at the Bee Meadow development in South Molton, in time to enjoy Christmas in their new home.

The couple were previously living in Swindon in a larger three bedroomed property, which they had re-configured to create an open-plan home, therefore, it was important for Wendy and Phil, to find a new home built on one level which offered light open-plan interior space they were used to.

Wendy explained: “Phil did most of the property searching and looked online at properties across a wide area including, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. What we discovered was that the bungalows were all conventional in their layout, with separate rooms and a lack of natural light.”

“We didn’t find what we were looking for which prompted us to extend our search further westwards into Devon,” said Phil.  “I came across Baker Estates’ website and the new collection of homes at Bee Meadow in South Molton.  Instantly, the exciting contemporary style of the bungalows inside and out, stood out, and their open-plan design was exactly what we were after and within our budget.”

The Culley's were quick to go and view the three-bedroom show home at Bee Meadow and reserved a two-bedroom home off-plan, priced at £289,950.  Their purchase went through smoothly and they said, ‘we couldn’t fault the care and attention we received from the sales team at Baker Estates.’

“Now we’re here, we could not be happier,” said Wendy and Phil.  “We absolutely love the bungalow and the amount of light and brightness that fills the interior – we have the ‘feel-good factor’ every day.  The kitchen/diner has to be our favourite room, overlooking the garden and so airy and full of natural light.”

Phil said: “Considering we really didn’t know South Molton, we’ve fitted in straight away.  We both love the town with its independent shops, pannier and flea markets, flower, fruit and veg shops, teashops, and cafes.  It offers us exactly the lifestyle and atmosphere we were looking for.

Our local community could not have been more welcoming, you cannot walk out of your front door and go on a dog walk, or go shopping, without people being friendly, waving and chatting.”

The couple are looking forward to the arrival of spring, getting out into their garden, and exploring new places in the area.  As National Trust members, they are lucky enough to have several stunning historic houses and gardens on their doorstep and are planning where to visit when the doors re-open in March/April.

Bee Meadow is just a short drive away from the picturesque North Devon coast, with lovely sandy beaches and wonderful cliff walks.

Baker Estates has released more properties for sale at Bee Meadow, which includes their most popular house type ‘The Holly’ 3-bedroom chalet bungalow. Currently, prices start from £379,995.
