New build at Little Cotton Farm in Dartmouth gives blank canvas for artists to make a home

The pull of a simpler life in picturesque Dartmouth brought artists, Tom and Rita Clifford, to buy a Clover three-bedroom home at Little Cotton Farm, built by local housebuilder Baker Estates.

As fine artists, in their 80s, the couple’s passion has never waned, and the beautiful coastal landscape around Dartmouth provides inspiration, particularly interesting to Tom, whose work includes marine painting.

Tom explained the decision to buy at the popular development. He said: “We holidayed near to Little Cotton Farm, so we know the local area well. Our daughter and her family are also living close by, so it made sense for us to buy a new build here rather than a ‘fixer-upper’ in a more remote area.

“Living at Little Cotton Farm suits our practical daily needs; we have a choice of local shops, a new medical centre, and lots of other amenities which also persuaded us that this was the right place to call home.”

Mr and Mrs Clifford bought a Clover off-plan, enabling them to watch the build progress over six months.

Rita added: “One of our favourite rooms in our new home is the well-designed fully fitted kitchen, with doors leading out onto the large garden.  We also find the bathrooms well-designed with a relaxing and cosy feel. Our house faces east with lovely trees and a footpath at the front which will lead us to the new clinic and supermarkets.”

The couple met in London in 1966, when Tom was an art student at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and Rita was working for The Artist Magazine in the office above. The couple spent many years living and raising their family in the UK, with Tom working in advertising.

Tom said: “The service we have experienced from the Baker Estates sales team and on-site management was superb. We also love the address, we live in a clover design, in a clover address, although we’ve yet to discover a four-leaf clover!”

Annie Williams, Sales and Marketing Director at Baker Estates, said: “We are delighted Mr and Mrs Clifford have settled so well at Little Cotton Farm which is really taking shape. Our aim is always to build homes in locations which create a very special experience for our buyers, when it comes to new build developments.  We invest a great deal of time into place-making and creating beautiful homes with much attention to detail.”

Two-, three- and four-bedroom homes are available at Little Cotton Farm, with prices starting from £259,995.
