South West housebuilder, Baker Estates, has announced its sponsorship of this year’s Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta.

The Dartmouth Royal Regatta, is a community event funded entirely on donations and sponsorship through local businesses. It takes place between August 29th and 31st.

The organisers will also introduce the new “Baker Estates trophy” which will be presented annually to the junior, aged 18 or under, individual or crew who demonstrate the most outstanding effort, performance, courage or sportsmanship in the junior rowing events during the Regatta.

The local rowing heats (incorporating the Junior Rowing) take place on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th August, with the finals on Friday 30th August.  The presentation ceremony will be held on Friday evening at the Bandstand, Royal Avenue Gardens from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, where the Baker Estates trophy will be presented.

Managing director of Baker Estates, Ian Baker, commented: “As a local housebuilder we are delighted to sponsor this historic event that’s a special date for so many people in Dartmouth.

To present The Baker Estates’ Trophy to the best youngster or crew that demonstrates sportsmanship, tenacity and dedication will be a real honour.”

Ed Botteril, Chairman of The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta said: “It is wonderful to have Baker Estates supporting what will be a very special year for our Regatta 175 celebrations. As always, it really will be a wonderful Regatta and we hope local people will come out and support all those that are working so hard to be at the top of their game.

Baker Estates has purchased land south of Townstal Road, known as Little Cotton Farm and is bringing forward a range of much needed new homes to Dartmouth including houses, apartments and bungalows. The site will also offer significant employment opportunities from the development of over six acres of commercial land.
