Peter and Joan Murphy had been looking to downsize for a number of years. After moving to Devon 55 years ago for Peter’s job in the police force, the couple had eventually settled near Appledore in a four-bedroom house.
The couple, now in their late 70s, were originally looking for a bungalow to enjoy later life. The couple visited Baker Estates’ Estuary View in the town and immediately fell in love with one of the show homes – a two-bedroom semi-detached Elm – on the front of the development. The couple looked into a home exchange which takes the stress out of moving home as Joan, a retired primary school teacher, explains.
“We loved Estuary View, from the first visit, and had our hearts set on the show home which suited our needs. We looked into home exchange which made sense and it took all the hassle out of moving for us. I can’t recommend the service we received enough. Everything was sorted for us, and it meant we didn’t miss the boat buying the home we fell in love with.
“We both love Appledore. It’s unspoilt and a lot quieter than some coastal Devon towns. We are very happy here and glad we could remain in the area. We’ve only had to move half a mile! These new homes are perfect for older people who can’t keep up with the renovation of older properties.”
Peter added: “Baker Estates have been excellent. The development has been so well built, the after sales service is good and we are very happy with our move. Friends ask us what’s the best thing about our new home. We say ‘everything!’ The home is so light and bright, and we have a sea view from our bedroom window to wake up to.”
