A retired couple in their 60s have found their number one choice to live after returning to Dartington, Devon, thanks to Baker Estates’ St Mary’s development.
Ann and Nick Andrews previously lived in Dartington over six years ago before deciding to follow their dream of renovating a farmhouse in France. After completing that project and several years abroad, the couple decided to return to Devon and began searching for a new home, unsure whether Dartington would still be affordable.
“We really wanted to move back to Dartington but didn’t think we could afford to live here again,” said Ann. “When we met up with some old friends who still live locally, they told us about Baker Estates’ St Mary’s development. After making an appointment to view a show home, the couple were shown a two-bedroom Elm with a large rear garden—perfect for their passion for gardening.
“As soon as we stepped through the door and saw how the light flowed through the house, that was it,” Anne added. “We knew immediately that we were buying a new home here. It’s exactly what we wanted, and we’ve already made it our own by creating a library space in the lounge. It really ticks all the boxes and was within our price range.”
The couple also praised the development’s location. “We love how connected it is to the town,” Anne said. “It’s just a short walk to all the amenities.”
Nick, a retired quantity surveyor, was particularly impressed by the build quality. “I know most of the builders in Devon, and I’m genuinely impressed with the quality and finish of the Baker Estates homes,” he said. “The house has all the energy efficiency features you’d expect, including solar panels, an EV charger and modern insulation, which gives us real peace of mind and hopefully saves us some money long-term.”

“It’s spacious, calm and beautifully planned,” said Ann “The roads are wide, parking is well organised for both residents and visitors, and there’s very little on-street parking. It just feels well considered.”
“It’s lovely to be back somewhere we know so well,” she added. “We couldn’t be happier.”
