A chance opportunity has brought one family closer together after Keith Betteridge made the move from East Sussex to Devon, purchasing a new home at Baker Estates' Hayne Farm development in Honiton – just a stone's throw from his son, Tom.
Keith, who is in his 70s, had been living in a two-bedroom terraced house in East Sussex before deciding to relocate to Devon. He has since upsized to a spacious four-bedroom detached home with an integrated garage at The Oaks at Hayne Farm, where Tom purchased his own home last year.
What began as a spur-of-the-moment decision has turned into the perfect move especially after taking up Baker Estates Home Exchange scheme which helped the move go smoothly.
Keith said: "It was a long drive to see each other – up to four and a half hours – so one day I made the decision to move to Devon. You never quite know how long you have after all, and I wanted to see Tom more.
"It was a bit by chance that a house became available on the same development and so close to Tom! Obviously, I knew how happy Tom is there and I've managed to buy an almost identical house. Tom thinks it's great because I can look after his garden when he's away with work!"
As well as being closer to his son, Keith says the move has transformed his day-to-day life.
"Hayne Farm is so peaceful and I love having a driveway. Parking was previously such a nightmare – it's not now. I love having so many rooms and I'm quickly filling them all with my stuff!"
Tom said he is delighted to have his father living nearby. "It's great having Dad so close and being able to spend quality time together."
Keith also praised the Baker Estates team for making the move as smooth as possible.
