Running man Tristan is training to be as strong as an Ox for an epic race in May to raise money for charity

Housebuilder site managers are used to being outside in all weathers which is the perfect preparation for Tristan Watts who is training for the Ox Epic Race in May – one of the most notorious cross-country events in the UK.

Tristan, 46, Senior Site Manager at Baker Estates is going the full hog – competing in all five races over the weekend, covering over 100 miles, with one seven-mile leg in the dark.

The Ox Epic attracts hundreds of runners from all over the country and boasts some stunning countryside scenery. Tristan is raising money for Baker Estates’ chosen charity Rowcroft Hospice by attempting to complete the 104-mile course over four legs.

Tristan said: “It’s an extremely tough challenge but I’ll be spurred on by raising money for a great charity. I’m currently training over 25 miles a week, but nothing can prepare you for running cross country in the dark where anything can happen!

Ali Upton from Rowcroft said: “Baker Estates is a fantastic supporter of Rowcroft and its support has enabled patients throughout South Devon to benefit from the compassionate care we provide. Tristan’s challenge is completely mad and we are thrilled that he is doing it to support Rowcroft. We wish him all the best.”

Ian Baker, Managing Director at Baker Estates, said: “The whole company is wishing Tristan all the best for the event which is recognised as one of the hardest endurance races in the country.”
