Positive Local Response to Baker Estates’ Public Consultation on Proposed Development at Furzebray Farm, South Molton

Baker Estates held a public exhibition on Thursday 15 May at the South Molton Scout Hut, where the company presented its reserved matters proposals for a new residential development at Furzebray Farm.

The event was very well attended by local residents, many of whom shared thoughtful and constructive feedback on the plans. Attendees welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with the Baker Estates team, view the initial proposals, and ask questions about the development.

The proposals include 136 new homes, with a focus on bungalows and chalet bungalows — property types that are highly sought after by local people — alongside 19 affordable homes for shared ownership or affordable rent. The response from the community was encouraging, with many residents expressing support for the mix of housing and the potential benefits to the wider town.

Residents also appreciated the environmental sensitivity of the plans, particularly the retention of existing Devon hedgerows, the proposed green infrastructure, and measures to enhance biodiversity.

Nicole Stacey, Planning Director at Baker Estates, said: “We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to attend and share their views. It was clear from the conversations we had that local people care deeply about the future of South Molton. Their feedback is invaluable and will help shape the next stage of our plans before we submit a reserved matters application.”

Baker Estates looks forward to continuing a positive dialogue with the South Molton community as plans for Furzebray Farm development progress

Baker Estates is looking to submit its application in the coming weeks after evaluating all consultation feedback.
