Barnstaple family enjoy the quiet life in their new home down on Trayne Farm

The Wood family celebrated their first Christmas in their new home at Trayne Farm development in Barnstaple and couldn’t be happier with their choice.

Trayne Farm is a tasteful collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes built by award winning south west housebuilder Baker Estates in Pilton in over three acres of green space providing a haven for wildlife and country walks.

Kim and her husband Darren, both in their 40’s, and their two teenage children had lived in their previous house in Barnstaple for 20 years.  Increasingly, they felt they had outgrown their home and it was time for a change, so the family set their sights on finding something stylish and contemporary.

Kim, who is a Housekeeper on the Maternity unit at North Devon District hospital in Barnstaple, explained: “We knew we wanted a well-built open plan new build with a garage and generous private garden.  The location was very important to us – convenient for work and within easy walking distance of the town, but in a setting that was really attractive and peaceful.”

The Woods put their own house on the market and tried not to get their hopes up, but they soon had a buyer and at that point made an appointment to look at what Baker Estates was building locally.  They visited their Meadowbrook development in Callington and then the now completed development Oakwell Mews just a couple of miles from Barnstaple town centre in Bickington Village, where they fell in love with the layout and design of the show home.

Kim said: “I am a big fan of contemporary minimalist interiors without clutter. When we saw the way the interior of the show home at Oakwell Mews had been designed, I knew that the style would work so well for us as a family.”

The Woods bought off plan at Trayne Farm in February and moved in at the beginning of September 2020.  They paid £269,995 for their three bedroom house, which has a very large open plan kitchen/diner/living room and three good sized bedrooms with two bathrooms and a downstairs cloakroom.

Kim said: “My husband Darren is very happy with the garage which he has commandeered as his ‘man cave’.  It has an Apex roof which increases the amount of storage space we have.  Details like fencing in the rear garden make all the difference.”

“None of us can believe how warm this house is and how it stays warm when the heating is off.  My son cycles home from work and immediately says how warm it is!”

Kim and her family have really found their forever home and appreciate the beautiful tranquil setting, where they hear no traffic just the sound of owls hooting, and birds sing.

Kim commented: “Darren is an Operations manager for a local motor engineering company and his journey to work is even shorter now. Being able to walk to work at the hospital in three minutes is the icing on the cake for me, no more scraping the car in winter and driving down icy hills. Yet we’re only moments away from the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just north of the Taw Estuary.  We’re so close to three award winning beaches on the south west coast and have Exmoor National Park on our doorstep. We feel really lucky that we discovered Baker Estates, who helped us every step of the way to buy our perfect new family home in the area we know and love.”
